Transforming the meal time experience for patients
Friday 3 February, 2017
Mater Hospital Sydney is transforming the meal-time experience for patients – from May 2017 we will offer full room service for all meals. The first Hospital to introduce room-service in NSW, patients will no longer receive meals at a set time each day, nor will they need to select their meals a day in advance. Instead, patients can order meals when it suits them (we will even have an all-day breakfast menu) and patients will receive fresh, cooked to order meals delivered in under 45 minutes from placing their order. They also have the option to pre-order a meal and have it delivered at a specified time.
No longer will food go cold, stale or soggy waiting for patients to return to their room after attending a class, or arriving at the same time as their visitors, or while they’re trying to sleep. And no longer will unwanted, uneaten food be thrown in the scrap heap.
The Mater’s kitchen has been fully renovated to meet the needs of the new room service arrangements, which will be available to all patients from 6.30am to 7.00pm daily. Room Service Assistants will be taking patient orders, and guide those with special food needs through menu choices, so that good nutrition remains paramount.
