The Mater

Pastoral and Spiritual Care

During the current COVID-19 situation and in line with our hospital precautions, Pastoral and Spiritual Care will initially be provided by phone. We will place a call to patients in their room, let them know of the services available and make ourselves available during the patient’s stay.  Now more than ever in these uncertain times, if patients would like to talk through any of concerns, we are here to listen.

Pastoral and Spiritual Care staff are qualified employees who are part of the Mater interdisciplinary team. Every patient, as well as close family, are offered thoughtful, sensitive and relevant emotional and/or spiritual support.

The Mater Hospital acknowledges that being in hospital is an emotional as well as physical experience. Our Pastoral Care staff aim to provide a professional and confidential space where the emotional experience of hospitalisation can be shared and understood. They can be contacted by making a request through Nursing staff or by calling extension 8385 (weekdays) or 8392 (weekends).
